NROTC ScholarshipsNROTC Scholarships

The Navy Reserve Officers Training Program (NROTC) is a multi-year program that runs concurrently with a student’s normal college or university educational course of study. In addition to a normal academic workload leading to a Baccalaureate degree, NROTC students attend classes in Naval Science, participate in the NROTC unit for drill, physical training, and other activities, and are generally taught the leadership principles and high ideals of a military officer. During the summer break between school years, NROTC students participate in a variety of training activities. These sessions help students understand various career options as well as familiarize them with a military life.

You may start the process of applying for NROTC scholarships during the second semester of your junior year of high school.  Students may apply for only one of the three scholarship program options-Navy, Nurse or Marine Corps.  Before the application can be finalized and forwarded for selection consideration, you must ensure that a copy of your complete transcript, including your entire junior year, is forwarded to your recruiter.

Active duty Navy applicants are ineligible to apply for NROTC scholarships. Active members of other branches of the military may apply if granted a conditional release. Individuals who are scheduled for boot camp may apply but cannot report to boot camp before a decision is made on their application.  If they wish to report to boot camp prior to a decision being made they must withdraw their application in writing.

The Four-Year NROTC scholarship offer full tuition at one of the listed colleges or universities, all mandatory fees imposed by the School on all full-time undergraduate students with some exceptions, a stipend of $750 per academic year for text books, provide all uniforms, three summer cruises as well as a subsistence allowance each academic month. The length of scholarship benefits is predicated upon the student’s degree plan.  Students will receive scholarship benefits only for the time required to receive their Baccalaureate Degree or 4 years, whichever comes first.

There are also two and three year scholarships. The eligibility requirements are the same basic requirements as the Four-Year scholarship with a few exceptions. Students must have at least at least 30 semester hours but no more than 90 semester hours. You must have a minimum college GPA of 2.5 and you must be admitted to or in process of gaining admittance to school affiliated with the NROTC Unit from which they are being nominated. The award is similar and offers the same full tuition to approved schools as well as fees, provide uniforms and Naval Science textbooks, two summer cruises, the same stipend for text books as well as a subsistence allowance each academic month

The Navy can offer a rewarding career and an opportunity to serve your nation. If you are interested in joining the Navy but want to attend college as well, or if you are interested in joining as an officer, this is the program for you.
